Ghana's independence is only on paper - Bishop Adu

Ghana has not yet gained independence. Our independence is only on paper, head and founder of New Jerusalem Church, Kumasi-Bishop JY Adu has said.

In an interview with Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, the renowned man of God said Ghana is not economically independent hence, our independence is meaningless.

Ghana today [Monday], March 6, 2017, turns 60 years since it attained independence on March 6, 1957 from British after 113 years a colonial rule.

Previously known as the Gold Coast, Ghana on March 6, 1957 was the first Sub-Saharan African country to become independent on the back of Ghana’s first President and his Pan-African ethos, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. But Bishop JY Adu believes that we have not gained economic independence.

''Our independence is on paper. We are undeveloped. Ghana is not moving forward. We are retrogressing and that is worrying. When asked our strength spiritually, he said unity within the Christendom is weak with reverend minister fighting among themselves.

Politicians he lamented have also divided the nation along partisan lines.

‘’Politicians don’t speak the truth. They are deceptive, and are not loyal. Ghanaians are also not truthful, and if we do not have men of integrity, we will continue to remain where we are,’’ he added.

He advised the opposition to assist the current administration to move the nation forward instead of attacking it.
