Accra, March 18, GNA - There was a near clash between the organisers of the Committee for Joint Action (CJA) against the recent increase in t he petroleum prices and students of the Commonwealth Hall of the University of Ghana, Legon when the former decided to organise a forum in the hall to solicit support for the Wahala '2' demonstration. The students of the Hall also referred to as Vandals contended that the leadership of the CJA breached the procedure for organising public forums.

According to them their constitution stipulated that at least a 48-hour notice should be give before a forum was held.

Besides it was the responsibility of the Publications Committee with the consent of the Junior Common Room (JCR) leadership to organise such forums but the CJA failed to fulfil any of the requirements before putting up their notices a day before the scheduled function.

Members of the Wahala team including Mr Kwesi Pratt Jnr. of the INSIGHT newspaper, Mr Haruna Iddrisu, MP (NDC) for Tamale South and Mr Charles Kofi Wayo on their rejection by the Vandals moved the venue to the Central Cafeteria and addressed their supporters.

They expressed disappointment in the Vandals for exhibiting a hostile attitude towards the CJA and accused them that the NPP had manipulated them with money to interrupt the activities of the committee.

At the function, the speakers condemned the increase in petroleum prices and called on the students to offer massive support towards the fight for the reduction in the prices.

They also entreated the students to assist the CJA to call for civil disobedience whenever the need arose.

They described the NPP government as being insensitive to the plight of Ghanaians, stressing that President Kufour and his team were only interested in seeking their own parochial interest. Meanwhile a section of the students expressed displeasure against some of the utterances of the speakers.

They explained that the utterances were full of insults but the forum ended without any serious troubles.
