Ghanaian pair Jonathan Mensah and Harrison Afful featured for Columbus Crew in their first MLS match of the season in a 1-1 stalemate against NY Red Bulls on Saturday.
The duo lasted the entire duration of the game and both put up an impressive performance, however, Afful was booked on the 16th minute for exhibiting an unsporting behavior.
New York Red Bulls took the lead courtesy Romanian midfielder Andreas Ivan goal after heading home Florian Valot’s cross in just six minutes into the game.
Gaston Sauro however, levelled the score of the game for Columbus Crew in the 41st minute to earn them a vital point in their season opener.
Sauro’s header redirected Federico Higuain’s corner for the first MLS goal in his four-season career.
Meanwhile, their compatriot Lalas Abubakur was an unused substitute in the game.
