Black Stars skipper, Asamoah Gyan, has opened up about his 2010 World Cup penalty kick fiasco, swearing the penalty miss was one of the saddest things that ever happened to him.

In a Twitter video, the figurehead of Ghana’s national football team recounted how he had to constantly fight off the disappointment he felt for failing the whole continent.

Asamoah Gyan missed the crucial penalty against Uruguay during Ghana’s impressive tournament in South Africa.

It was the last kick of the game.Had he converted the kick, Ghana would have become the first ever African team to reach a World Cup semi-final.

“I never shoot that high. It hit the post. I was like ‘oh God!’ The whole of Africa was in my head. We were the only hope in Africa, I blew it. I blew it away in just a twinkle of an eye. That is one of the saddest moments [in my life].

“Sometimes I blame myself, but sometimes I just feel life goes on. I had a great World Cup, and everybody appreciated what I did in the World Cup despite that penalty [miss]. Sometimes I assess things and I am okay. Life goes on,” he said in the video.
