Ibrahim Tanko upbeat about Black Stars chances in AFCON 2019
Black Stars deputy coach Ibrahim Tanko has envisaged a bright future for the team ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
Ghana failed to secure a ticket the 2018 FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia after a woeful qualifying campaign, where they finished in 3rd position behind Uganda and Egypt respectively from Group E.
However, Tanko has expressed his upbeat about the team's fortunes following a strong ongoing rebuilding process ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be staged in Cameroon.
“Now we have to concentrate on the African Cup, and looking at the players we tried so far its gives us hope that we can have a strong team going forward,"Tanko said
“So we are going to continue with what we are doing and then next year we will go out and qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations,” he told the media after the Black Stars drew 1-1 against Egypt in Cape Coast last Sunday.
Ghana started their AFCON 2019 qualifiers on a good note with a massive 5-0 win over Ethiopia in the opening AFCON qualifier.
