Flagbearer of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama has officially launched the construction of a modern 500-seater sports facility in Bole-Bamboi, Northern Region, in a bid to enhance sports infrastructure and promote youth engagement in physical activities.
The groundbreaking ceremony, forms part of Mr. Mahama’s broader commitment to improving sports development across the country.
The former president stressed that the facility would be a crucial hub for nurturing local talent and fostering unity within the community.
The multipurpose complex, spearheaded by the Member of Parliament for Bole, Alhaji Yusif Suleman, will include a football pitch with changing rooms, volleyball and tennis courts, and a swimming pool.
In a Facebook post following the ceremony, Mr. Mahama reiterated his dedication to inclusive development, emphasising that projects like this would benefit marginalised communities.
"When completed, this will surely be an excellent opportunity to provide the youth with an avenue to develop their sporting skills and talents, keep them healthy, and create entertainment opportunities through the various games and activities in the complex. The construction work will also create job opportunities for the town’s skilled and unskilled youth," Mr. Mahama wrote.
The construction phase is expected to create jobs for both skilled and unskilled workers, providing an economic boost to the region. Local residents have expressed excitement about the project, viewing it as a long-overdue development that will have a lasting positive impact on the community.
