Two times Africa Cup of Nations winner, George Alhassan insists the money that was given to the AFCON winning teams of the past was inadequate.
The AFCON winning teams of the past were given an amount of $ 100,000 after continues complaints of neglect following their exploits in winning the country four Nations Cup titles.
According to George Alhassan, the Black Stars long wait for a fifth elusive AFCON trophy is because of the bitterness from the past teams that won the title and felt inadequately compensated.
"The state didn’t do anything for us after we won the trophy so we the players out of anger said “Ghana should go and win the trophy again let’s see,” he told Happy FM.
"The money ex-President John Mahama gave us was a peanut. I was not around when they were sharing the money so my daughter went for it. She was given 10,000 for the two trophies I won. I don’t know if it was in cedis or dollars," he added.
George Alhassan was the golden boot winner at the 1982 Africa Cup of Nations, which was won by Ghana. The ex-Ghana player praised former teammate Kofi Badu for his exploits.
"Kofi Badu was the best player In was squad. He was very good in all the tournaments. He helped me a lot in my goals scoring ability," he said.
