Top five African stars who still need a transfer

Henry Onyekuru

While Everton signed on Nigeria international in Alex Iwobi, they still have to offload another, with Onyekuru likely to follow in Ademola Lookman’s footsteps out of Goodison Park.

He had been linked with an unlikely move to Juventus following an encouraging loan spell with Galatasaray, while AS Monaco have also been mooted as potential suitors.

The Liverpool Echo have reported that Onyekuru has not been granted a work permit to actually play for the Toffees, so it’s imperative he secures a move away from the club at the earliest opportunity.

Andre Ayew

While his brother Jordan secured a move away from Swansea City, signing for Crystal Palace permanently, Andre remains at the club, stranded in the second tier.

The chance of a Premier League move has already passed the forward by, although the Swans have made no secret of their desire to cut the Ghana international—and his hefty wage bill—loose.

Steve Cooper looks likely to reintegrate the forward into his plans in the short term, but there’s still time for Dede to get a move away before the international window closes.

Eric Bailly

While Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s arrival prompted hope that Bailly would get a renewed opportunity to make an impact at Manchester United.

Instead, he's encountered further injury misery, missing the Africa Cup of Nations in the process, before suffering another setback during preseason.

It made a move away from Old Trafford unlikely, but following Harry Maguire’s arrival, the ongoing presence of Marcos Rojo, and the return from loan of Axel Tuanzebe, Bailly’s United redemption appears further away than ever.

Victor Wanyama

Big Vic returned to the Tottenham Hotspur side to play a part in the club’s run to the Champions League final, but those late-season performances couldn’t mask his declining impact in North London.

The powerhouse managed just 13 league games last term, of which only four were starts, and the arrivals of Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso threaten to push him further down the pecking order.

Bournemouth were linked with the Kenya international’s signature earlier in the window, as were Wolves, but neither deals ultimately materialised.

Yannick Bolasie

The Democratic Republic of Congo sideman is a forgotten man at Goodison Park after his progress at the club was halted by a devastating injury in late 2016.

He showed glimpses of his quality on loan at Anderlecht last term, but after a poor Africa Cup of Nations in which he appeared off the ball for the Leopards, Bolasie’s future remains uncertain.

He doesn’t appear to be in the plans of Everton boss Marco Silva, and has been linked with moves to Olympique de Marseille and CSKA Moscow.
