Veteran Journalist Kwesi Pratt Jnr
The Managing Editor of The Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, has raised concerns about why local coaches appointed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) are paid lower salaries.
According to him, most foreign coaches who lead the national team enjoy higher and better remuneration packages designed to attract them into the job.
However, he noted that the situation is different for local coaches, whose salaries are significantly lower, even when they deliver comparable results.
7 facts you must know about new Black Stars coach Carlos Queiroz
Speaking on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV, Kwesi Pratt stated that the structure is unfair and should be reviewed.
“The worst part of it is, we have Ghanaian coaches who have done an excellent job. When they pay a Ghanaian coach, sometimes they pay him a quarter of the salary they give a foreign coach. What is that?” he questioned.
His comments come in response to the appointment of Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz as Black Stars coach for the 2026 FIFA World Cup following the dismissal of Otto Addo.
Reports indicate that Queiroz is expected to earn between $100,000 and $200,000 as negotiations continue to finalise the deal, while Otto Addo, a local coach, earned about $50,000 as salary.
