But here's the difference: Norway didn't turn on him. Norwegian fans didn't insult or vilify their own star. Instead, many even joined the English supporters in singing, "Hey Jude, don't let me down, take a sad song and make it better..." They stood by their team, respected the opposition, and moved on.
Now compare that to how we often treat our own. Is it any surprise that some foreign-born children of Ghanaian legends such as Osei Kuffour, C.K. Akonnor, and others choose to keep their distance from the Black Stars?
If Jordan Ayew had set patriotism aside and chosen to represent France—the country of his birth—would he and his family have endured the level of abuse they have received from some Ghanaians despite decades of sacrifice, commitment, and service to our motherland?
