Glasgow 2026: 'Expect the best' – Promise Wonder Atsu Aheto targets personal best

Team Ghana para swimmer Promise Wonder Atsu Aheto says representing Ghana at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games is one of the proudest moments of his career as he prepares to make his debut in the pool on Monday.

The Ghanaian para athlete is focused on delivering a personal best performance, believing it could be enough to secure a place on the podium.

"I'm ready to put in my best and do a personal best. If my personal best is enough, it can take me to the podium," Aheto said.

Although he admits he knows little about the athletes he will be competing against, Aheto says he is approaching the race with confidence and determination.

"I don't really know my opponents very well, but I'm not scared of anything. I'm here to do what's best," he stated.

Aheto described the opportunity to wear the national colours at the Commonwealth Games as a privilege and expressed his excitement at competing on one of the biggest stages in international sport.

"It is a great honour to represent Ghana here in Glasgow; I'm very happy and very excited about it," he said.

The para-swimmer also had a message for Ghanaians ahead of his race, urging them to believe in him as he aims to make the nation proud.

"They should expect the best from me," Aheto assured.
