Iñaki Williams has ended his four-year journey with the Ghana national team, announcing his retirement from international football on Friday, September 11, 2026.

The Athletic Bilbao forward made 28 appearances for the Black Stars and scored two goals during his time with Ghana, with his first coming memorably against Madagascar.

With Ghana pushing for a winner against Madagascar in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, the Black Stars continued to press in the closing stages.

The breakthrough finally arrived in the sixth minute of added time.

Inaki Williams retires from Black Stars

A cross was delivered into the Madagascar penalty area and, as the ball dropped inside the box, Williams reacted quickest to get on the end of it.

The Athletic Bilbao forward rose highest and directed his header past the Madagascar goalkeeper, sending the Baba Yara Stadium into wild celebrations.

Williams' 96th-minute strike gave Ghana a 1–0 victory and marked his first goal for the Black Stars after switching his international allegiance from Spain to Ghana.
