Is all because of the way things are done in the sports administation. I am a Ghanaian living in Belgium for almost four years now, by the grace of God i have worked in some amazing companys here in Belgium and if u see the teachnology i wonder what does our ministers to when they visit such country on Government mission or they just come and enjoy the big hotels paid with the poor tax payers money. I any of my children ever has interest in sports i will encourage them to help Belgium because they have done alot for me, sometimes we say the white are racist, but i tell u we the Ghanaian living abroad are more racist that the white.

Massa, Ghana has been very bad in this respect but the other side of it is, without Ghana these athletes wouldn't have been known by their so called new home countries. How about that? In my time, it was a joy standing on the tracks in Accra and Kumasi stadia, raising your head and seeing lots of faces cheering you on but in the end, you have to hustle real hard to make ends meet. I'll advise the athletes to keep quiet and work harder, when you start gaining fame on the international tracks, waive Ghana bye bye and go run for where your efforts will be acknowledged period. Theirs is the real sweat going waste not Jordan Ayew's.

don't be misled. Lesser known sports are not as rewarding as you think, even in the advanced countries. Only the high performers are rewarded, but not by their governments. The rewards come through sponsorship and endorsements. Soccer, football, basketball, baseball and so on have high salaries. Table tennis, tennis, track and field, volleyball, golf, etc do not pay that much, except if you are one of the top players. Everybody should feel proud to play for his or her country. If you want to play for your country for monetary rewards than you have the wrong mindset.
On the other hand, I agree with the author that all sportsmen/women should be treated equally. If the national soccer players are being paid $10,000 just for qualifying to the next round of a competition, then athletes and others should be paid the same amount if they qualify to the next stage of their competition. If the president attended the funeral of the mother of Asamoah Gyan, then he should attend of funeral of the mother of Aziz Zakari. Equal treatment should start from the president, to the national sports council, and down to all Ghanaians.

You're right, we did make money from the worldcup. But you and I will agree that one gold medal on the London games medal table brings a country more glory than $10 million does. Do not forget that the government spends significantly more money (coaches salaries, training trips, etc) on soccer hence the $10 million from FIFA every four years (hopefully) could be counted as a wash.

It is true Ghanaians are more racist that the whites. That is why we talk so much about tribalism. But the article is about the attitude towards the other disciplines of sport. ALL Ghanaians believe you only succeed by going to University and anything else is a failure. It is difficult for us to see people have different talents and these must be nurtured too That is why we are slow to develop as we cannot accept new concepts easily. That is what we need to address

Cast your eyes around the country, the villages and the remote areas where the majority of Ghanians live, it is severe poverty. Playing or working for Ghana should still be considered a sacrifice. How mush are teachers, doctors, nurses, policemen, etc paid? They get only a small fraction of what they really deserve compared to their counterparts in Europe, US, etc. No one deserve a private jet, mansions, expensive cars etc, all those are thieves. My point is Ghana can only provide the platform for players to advertise themselves but can't make her players rich.
