Eugene Boakye Antwi, MP for Subin
Former Member of Parliament for Subin, Eugene Boakye Antwi, has stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has lost its reputation as the “better managers of the economy.”
According to him, this decline was due to the actions of the previous government under the leadership of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who allowed Ken Ofori-Atta to mismanage the Ghanaian economy.
Eugene Boakye Antwi emphasised that the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP), which caused significant hardship for Ghanaian pensioners, was the tipping point.
“In elections, we are known as better managers of the economy. When all the chips are down, you expect the NPP to rise to the occasion. That is why most Ghanaians lost trust in the NPP when they realized that the economy was declining.
"The party comprises businessmen, but now, if these individuals are leaving in droves—either choosing not to vote at all or opting to vote for the NDC—then you know there is a problem. We are losing that connection. That is why some of us confronted the President to change the Finance Minister, as there are others who could perform better. The cedi kept depreciating, prices of goods continued to rise, and yet there were no salary increases,” he said.
