Ghana is marking its 61st Independence anniversary at the Black Star Square in Accra with a parade. The event kick-starts a series of activities scheduled to take place as part of the anniversary celebration.
The Independence Day Parade being held at the Black Star square is expected to be observed by millions of Ghanaians.
Also expected to grace the occasion is the President of Ghana's friendly English neighbour Nigeria, Mohammadu Buhari, who is scheduled to address the august gathering.
It is envisaged that the Nigerian leader will use the opportunity to reaffirm the long-standing warm relations between the peoples and governments of both nations.
Ghana gained independence from the British in 1957 with Dr Kwame Nkrumah as its head.
