John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has criticized Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for their neglect of public schools.

Speaking to residents of the Daffiama-Bussie-Issa constituency, Mahama highlighted that nearly eight years into their administration, many schools in the Upper West Region still lack essential furniture.

He recalled how Dr. Bawumia, during his time as running mate, visited villages in the region where children were forced to sit on stones due to a lack of furniture, capturing the moment in photographs.

Mahama noted that today, approximately 1.2 million children are still attending schools without proper furniture, despite Bawumia's role on the economic management team.

Mahama pointed out that the inadequate infrastructure in public schools significantly hampers academic performance.

He stressed the necessity of a conducive learning environment and accused the NPP government of failing in its responsibilities.

He pledged to prioritize education and tackle the infrastructure challenges facing schools if elected.
