Member of Parliament (MP) for Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko has dispelled allegations rubbishing the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s idea of creating a new ministry on water and sanitation.
The President has received criticisms from a section of Ghanaians for detaching the ministry of works and housing from water and sanitation when the two could have been merged.
Some media houses including Accra-based Informer Newspaper reported that the legislator kicked against the idea describing it useless.
But speaking on Abusua FM’s Abusua Nkommo hosted by Kwame Adinkrah, Mr Agyarko threatened to file a suit against the media house for attempting to defame his hard earned reputation.
He questioned why the Informer newspaper would publish a false story about him wondering if its a plan by his political opponents to score cheap points.
‘I never said that anywhere, I have not spoken or said anything about the creation of water and sanitation ministry with anybody anywhere, nobody has sought my opinion on this matter, the reporter of Informer newspaper is the best person to tell me the place I said this. I spent so much money during the campaign and am even owing, maybe its a way God wants to pave way for me to get some money to pay my debt, I will talk to my lawyers. This amounts to defamation, they will tell me where I said this in court,’ he fumed.
Contrary to public criticisms about the new portfolios created, he expressed joy that the sanitation ministry is created to tackle sanitary conditions which has been one of the country’s major challenges.
‘The sanitation ministry is one of the best ministries created to tackle sanitary conditions,’ he said.
Touching on appointments which his name has not been mentioned yet, he retorted ‘we all cannot be ministers, it doesn’t mean some of us are incompetent but we are many and everybody cannot be in ministerial position, its not possible’.
He said his elder brother Boakye Agyarko has been nominated already and that it will amount to selfishness on his part to also be in a ministerial position.
‘Its good news is that my brother who has been nominated as energy minister designate is in the executive and am in the legislature, we have to help push the vision of the President Nana Addo which is geared towards changing the fortunes of the country,’ he stated.
