President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been commended by the Concerned Delegates of Asante Akyem South Constituency for appointing Alex Kwaku Korankye as Chairman of the Middle Belt Development Authority.

According to the pro-NPP group, the appointment of the former Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem South Constituency is an honour and proof that their “loyalty to the NPP and Nana Addo over the years is gradually being recognized”.

“Looking at the sea of competent men and women in the NPP, if the president has deemed it fit to appoint key personalities from our constituency to hold key positions in his government, then as the Bible says, we have to give honour to whom honour is due,” the group said in a statement.

The group further cited the appointments of Prof Ken Attafuah as Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority and Gifty Ohene Konadu as the National Coordinator of the One District, One Factory Programme as a recognition of the contributions of members of the NPP in the Asante Akyem Constituency.

According to them, although Prof. Ken Attafuah has distinguished himself in academia and is very professional, “the fact remains that there are many men in the NPP with similar qualifications yet the president chose him not just because he was very competent but also to honour the people of Asante Akyem South”.

On Gifty Ohene Konadu, they said, “her appointment does not only show the president’s desire and preparedness to bridge the gender gap but also to honour the people of Asante Akyem South.”

In view of this, the members of the AAS expressed their gratitude to the President for not neglecting them and have pledged their “unflinching support for the party and his government and promise to work assiduously towards NPP’s victory in 2020 and beyond.”

Looking at the sea of competent men and women in the NPP if the president has deemed it fit to appoint key personalities from our constituency to hold key positions in his government, then as the Bible says we have to give honour to whom honour is due.

The recent appointment of Hon. Alex Kwaku Korankye, a former Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem South Constituency(1997-2004) and Chairman of Parliamentary select committee on Food, Agricultural and Cocoa Affairs, A Member of Danquah Busia Dombo club which metamorphosed into NPP in 1992 and a former Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NPP from 1993 -1996 crowns our joy as party faithful’s and confirms our thoughts that our loyalty to the NPP and Nana Addo over the years is gradually been recognized.

It began with the appointment of Professor Ken Attafuah as Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority. One can attest to the fact that Prof. Ken Attafuah though have distinguished himself in academia, professionalism and nationalism from his days as Deputy chair of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), the fact remains that there are many men in the NPP with similar qualifications like yet the president chose him not just because he was very competent but also to honour the people of Asante Akyem South.

Secondly, we have also observed with much enthusiasm the appointment of Honourable Gifty Ohene Konadu as the National Cordinator of our flagship One District, One Factory Programme. This virtuous woman who served under His Excellency John Agyekum Kuffour as a Deputy Minister and also a Member of Parliament for our constituency from 2005 -2013 has once again been called to duty because there is something in her that add value to the very existence of our body politics and the prosecution of our party agenda. Her appointment her appointment not only shows the president’s desire and preparedness to bridge the gender gap but also to honour the people of Asante Akyem South. We are grateful Mr. President.

The Asante Akyem south Municipality with Juaso as capital is located at the eastern part of the Ashanti Region with its eastern borders forming part of the regional boundary dividing Ashanti and Eastern regions. We share common boundaries with Asante Akyem Central on the north and north-west with Asante Akyem north municipal and Kwahu south district on the west. On the south-west lies Bekwai municipal and Bosome Freho district and on the south east is Birim north district and also Ofoase Ayirebi district in the eastern region.

Covering a total surface area of 1153.3 square. It forms 5% of the total surface area of the Ashanti region and 0.5% of the total land surface area of Ghana. It is the largest of the Asante Akyem area in terms of population and land size with a population of 117,725 which is double of its counterparts Asante Akyem North which is 68,186 and Asante Akyem Central which 71,508 according to the 2010 population and housing census.

In terms of elections, the constituency has grown from 53% NPP win in 1996 to 68.3% in 2016 representing 15.3% growth with 33,658 voting population for NPP. We hope to grow above 70% in the 2020 election

Despite the competence of these men, we the Concerned NPP Delegates of Asante Akyem South (AAS) still consider it a favour done us by His Excellency the president Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo and we are grateful to him. We pledge our unflinching support for the party and his government and promise to work assiduously towards NPP victory in 2020 and beyond
