Member of Parliament for Buem Constituency, Daniel Kwesi Ashiamah, has asked President Nana Akufo-Addo to go beyond the reshuffling of ministers to equipping them to work effectively.

In his view, reshuffling them is not enough to ensure that the ministers deliver to the expectations of Ghanaians but providing them with resources is the most important thing.

“All in all, it is just pushing the ministers and their deputies from one place to the other, and I think it is good. What is most important is that it is not about shifting the positions of the ministers and deputy ministers, but he must provide them with resources to work,” he said on Onua FM.

He was commenting on the first reshuffle by the Akufo-Addo government on Yen Sempa.

The MP stated that the ministers and deputies need resources to work so that they can work on projects expected of them in their respective ministries.

He said parliament has approved allocations made for a number of projects, hence charged the ministers to make judicious use of those funds.

“Parliament approved a lot of loans before we went on recess. When the money comes, they should use it for the intended purpose. For instance, if it’s for a bridge, use it for the bridge and not for consumption purposes,” he said.

“Even on the day of budget review we approved 1.2 million dollars, and we even approved some loans on the day parliament was rising. It shouldn’t be used for things that will not help the country’s progress. The money is not supposed to be given to family and friends,” he cautioned.

Mr. Ashiamah also warned the government against spending money just like the size of the party’s symbol; the elephant.

“NPP likes spending and we don’t want to relate that to their symbol the elephant. NPP likes holding too many meetings when money is given to them. They hold so many meeting that the money end up getting finished without fulfilling its intended purposes,” he claimed
