Human rights group, Amnesty International is calling for a full scale investigation into the abuse of a worker at fast food joint Marwako which occurred over the weekend.

A supervisor at the restaurant Jihad Thaabn who happens to be the brother-in-law of the owner of Marwako Restaurant, is reported to have dipped the face of a worker, Evelyn Boakye into blended pepper for working slowly.

The incident has generated huge public interest with many calling for a total boycott of the restaurant.

The Minister for Gender and Social Protection has made the strongest indication yet that justice will be served the 25-year-old Evelyn Boakye following the assault on her.

However, speaking with 3FM News’ Collins Essuman, Acting Director of Amnesty International, Ghana, Frank Doyi, implored the police to take serious view of the matter and bring the perpetrator to book.

“Amnesty International will like to call on the law enforcement agencies particularly the police to take urgent action on the matter to thoroughly investigate the issue, speak to the relevant people involved both the employer and other workers who may have witnessed or who may have been present at the time this woman was unfortunately submitted to this kind of inhumane treatment”.

He added that “…and if the police is satisfied with their investigations and they have sufficient information to suggest that there was a clear act of assault, violation of the right of the woman then we will encourage the police to follow due process and present the case to court for the matter to be looked into”.

Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the Greater Accra police command, ASP Afia Tenge said the suspect was processed for court today but only got to know that the courts were not working when they went there.

She told TV3’s Edward Kwabi that Jihad Thaabn would be arraigned tomorrow for assault.
