There is simmering anger among executives of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Biakoye constituency of the Volta region over a supposed nomination of a known opposition party member as District Chief Executive for the area.

The Presiding Member of the Biakoye District Assembly, Madam Christy Nutakor, said to be a staunch member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), according to the NPP executives is canvassing stakeholders support in the area, claiming to be the President’s next choice for the vacant DCE position.

This was after an initial DCE-nominee for the area, Madam Millicent Kabuki Carboo, failed to sail through the confirmation test of the assembly members on three occasions.

At a press conference in Ho to express their displeasure about the turn of event, the Biakoye NPP leadership said the development is creating uneasy calm among the party’s rank and file in the area and called on the Presidency as well as the Regional and National party hierarchy to come clear on the issue.

Bright Donkor, NPP’s constituency communication director told the media on Monday that, “An Assembly member for Bowiri-Khirayen and Presiding Member of the Biakoye District Assembly, Christy Nutakor a well-known member of the National Democratic Congress is going round the constituency canvassing for support from chiefs and opinion leaders that President Nana Akufo-Addo has nominated her for the DCE position; Which has come to us not only as a shock, but a huge disappointment when there had been no consultation with the party members on the ground.”

“We want to call on whoever chose Christy Nutakor to do their homework thoroughly before her name is finally announced as the nominee. But one thing is for sure, the party in the constituency will never be the same again if it turns out that an NDC is to become the leader of the NPP in the Biakoye constituency,” the Executives warned.

Meanwhile, when contacted for her side of the story, Madam Christy Nutakor expressed surprise at the action of the Biakoye NPP leadership but said she was only playing her role as the Presiding Member of the Assembly to court support for the initial DCE-nominee, Millicent Kabuki Carboo, who was eventually rejected by the assembly members on three consecutive occasions.

She however indicated that as the only female District Assembly Presiding Member in the region and a citizen of the Biakoye district, she is ever ready to serve any capacity and as such, if the NPP executives had a vision of her being nominated as the DCE, she can only wait for the veracity or otherwise of their claim when such an announcement is made by the President.
