There is growing tension in the Nkwanta South District of the Volta Region as process leading to the appointment of a new District Chief Executive (DCE) commences.

The Concerned Elders of Akyode addressing a press conference in Nkwanta accused the NPP Chairman in the Constituency of presenting candidate to be appointed as the DCE.

Elias Olonboaso, speaking on behalf of the Concerned Elders of Akyode, said the people of Akyode have been committed and loyal to the NPP despite the Volta Region being described as the NDC's World Bank.

He noted that the Paramount Chief of the Akyode Traditional Area, Nana Obombo Lupuwua Sewura II, suffered attacks from the former Volta Regional Minister, Helen Ntoso, after he declared his support Nana Akufo-Addo when he visited the area in the run-up to the last year elections.

According to him, there was a consensus that the position of DCE would go to someone from Akyode and based on that assurance, they rallied behind Cephas Kujoe Edusei as the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Nkwanta South though he is not an Akyode with the expectation that the position of the DCE will be reserved for the people of Akyode, who, usually, vote massively for the party in the area.

He noted that after the elections the Constituency Chairman, Larry Yaw Samuel, and some executives started working towards imposing Cephas Kujoe Edusei and others whom they think would serve their interest.

"The chairman has used his own authority arbitrarily to change members of the committee for the selection of legible applicants for vetting. When members of the disciplinary committee challenged him on the constitutionality on what he did, he postponed the selection process to February 1, 2017, but held it the following day without the knowledge of some of the projected applicants of the Akyode.

They, consequently, warned the party chairmen in the constituency to desist from what he is doing to bring peace into the party in area and also called on the regional and national executives to intervene.
