Daasebre Osei Bonsu III and President Mahama in a handshake
Daasebre Osei Bonsu III, Mamponghene and representative of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has called on government and the State Housing Company Limited (SHC) to ensure the timely completion of the Dedesua Green City Affordable Housing Project, warning that Ghanaians are tired of unfulfilled promises and abandoned projects.
He made the call on Saturday, May 9, 2026, during the groundbreaking ceremony at Dedesua in Kumasi, attended by President John Dramani Mahama, officials from the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources, development partners, and SHC management.
Daasebre Osei Bonsu III expressed concern over the frequent failure of housing projects to progress beyond sod-cutting ceremonies.
“Many projects begin with good intentions but fail to materialise. People expect execution, accountability and results,” he said.

He also revealed that the Asantehene released over 200 acres of land to government more than 16 years ago for affordable housing, but successive administrations failed to develop it. He, however, commended the current government for reviving the project.
“Your Excellency, we are grateful to you and the NDC government for making this vision a reality,” he stated.
The Managing Director of SHC, John Sherif Bawa, assured stakeholders that the project is fully backed by financing and clear implementation timelines.
“It is not simply a promise. It is not a concept… it is not a rendering on a presentation slide that will gather dust in a boardroom,” he said.
He announced that the first phase will deliver 214 housing units by the end of 2027, with a total of 1,067 units expected over five years.
The Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Dr Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, said the project forms part of efforts to reduce Ghana’s housing deficit while promoting sustainable urban development.
