The Foundation for Security and Development in Africa (FOSDA), has urged Ghanaians to adopt a wait and see attitude on the 110 ministerial appointments made by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Mrs Theodora Williams Anti, the Programme Officer said: “Obviously from where we sit as citizens 110 ministers and deputy minister is a huge number for a nation, which is said to be in near if not in financial crisis.

“However, we should not be too quick to judge, we have to wait and see how these appointments will affect the fortunes of our country and the economy for the better.”

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, Mrs Anti said: “Research suggests some correlation between the size of government and economic growth. But what matters most is quality rather than quantity.”

“Indicators of a quality government include rule of law, tough on corruption and clear results are more important than size,” she added.

She said given the fact that government and public sector workers tend to absorb a sizeable share of the state resource and revenue generated, government might want to be careful that it does not swallow all that it generates and keep complaining of a broken economy.

“But all said and done, that is a government we voted for, entrusted the management and improvement of our economy and we must peaceful wait for the justification of their actions at the end of their 4 year mandate,” she stated.
