Dr Stephen Amoah is the Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso
Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Dr Stephen Amoah, has urged Ghanaians, particularly policymakers, to prioritise pressing national challenges such as youth unemployment and economic hardship over prolonged debates on LGBTQ+ issues.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem and monitored by GhanaWeb on November 7, 2025, Dr Amoah expressed concern that both Parliament and the public are devoting excessive attention and energy to discussions on sexuality while critical developmental issues remain unaddressed.
“The problems of Ghana are bigger than what we see. We live in a country where the youth don’t have jobs, yet our concentration and strength are on LGBTQ+ issues,” he said.

He stressed that although matters relating to LGBTQ+ rights should not be dismissed, they should not overshadow more urgent concerns affecting citizens.
“I’m not saying LGBTQ+ matters should be ignored, but should that be our priority? Should it take up the greater part of our time?” he questioned.
Dr Amoah further criticised the political conduct of the major parties, the NPP and NDC, stating that both have become more focused on opposing each other than on advancing national development.
According to him, over the past three decades, political rivalry has hindered policy continuity, with successive governments discarding or criticising initiatives introduced by their predecessors instead of building upon them.
He cited the ongoing debate surrounding the Free SHS policy as an example of this lack of continuity.
