'Ghana Beyond Aid' is the way to go - Danquah Institute

A policy think tank affiliated to the ruling government, Danquah Institute (DI) has thrown its weight on the President's declaration Ghana does not need much foreign assistance in terms of development.

"Ghana Beyond Aid is the way to go indeed", Executive Director of the think tank, Dr. Kingsley Nyarko backed the declaration of President Akufo-Addo.

"If you have followed other countries well which have developed, they did not dwell much on aids for their survival", former lecturer of the University of Ghana spoke on Kumasi-based Hello FM.

Dr. Kingsley Nyarko also took swipe to attacked critics of the government mostly members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) who are of the view that Ghana still needs aids to make strive in the ongoing economic hardship.

"The NDC people think we still need aids to strive .. what did they do with all the aids they received for the past eight year in power", the soft spoken physiologist quizzed.

"If they think Ghana cannot develop without aids, that is their own cup of tea", Dr. Kingsley Nyarko told host of "Akokoabon" political talk show, King Edward.

President Akufo-Addo since assuming office has reiterated his resolve to grow the country’s economy from one of dependence on foreign aid to independence and ensuring its development using local resources.

Nana Akufo-Addo, who has on various national and international platforms emphasized his belief that Ghana, like many other African countries, is endowed with enormous resources to guarantee its growth, recently caught global attention when he made a strong case for his position at an event which had French President Emmanuel Macron as a guest

But former Vice President, Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, has described the government’s much-touted ‘Ghana Beyond Aid’ mantra as a mere rhetoric.

According to him, the government is yet to provide adequate information about the mantra, and this raises uncertainty about what exactly it seeks to achieve.
