How Ghanaians reacted to Akufo-Addo’s ministerial list

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his government have been severely criticised after he announced 50 names of deputy ministers and four extra ministers of state on Wednesday.

As at now, the official list of ministers appointed stands at 110, making President Akufo-Addo the first president to have assembled the largest ministerial team ever in the history of Ghana's politics since independence.

This “large” list has drawn lots of critiques from the public and have become a topic of debate among Ghanaians.

Though the Akufo-Addo-led administration has heavily defended the list claiming, the huge number would help accelerate Ghana’s development, most Ghanaians still see the list to be unnecessarily large.

While some are calling on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to cut down on the number of persons he has appointed as ministers, others are of the view that the number is reasonable provided persons appointed are competent enough to deliver their mandates.

The Minority in Parliament, corporate and religious entities, and individuals are among those who have called for a reduction in the number with reasons that it would put stress on the public purse and on the economy.

In an interview to seek the views of the general public on what they make of the appointments, diverse views were expressed.

Some have described the appointment as outrageous and disappointing while some also believe the president has the right to appoint whoever he deems fit to work with in order to fix the economy as promised during his campaign.
