The Upper East Regional Minister, Tangoba Abayage has urged parents to take the education of their wards seriously and invest in it.

She said the education of children is key and integral if the country wants to achieve development and rob shoulders with her counterparts on the global stage.

Speaking during a call she made at the Gbedema chief palace in the Builsa South District Tuesday, as part of the second phase of her tour of the region, the minister emphasized the need for parents to commit themselves to the education of their children, saying it is the best investment any parent can ever make.

She urged them to desist from lavishing monies on unprofitable ventures and channel such resources to their wards education.

Noting the important role the children would play in the future if given good education today, the minister appealed to the chief to join in encouraging parents within his area to put their children in school and ensure that they get some education.

She expressed optimism in the massive development education sector would give Ghana should Ghanaians join hands to support government to invest in the education of citizens.

"Education is the game changer for every society. If any society will develop, it will depend on the education of its people. So whiles we are encouraging the children to be in school and to take their education seriously, we must also encourage parents to invest in the education of their wards. That is the best investment anyone can ever make. We all know that through President Nana Akufo SHS is free. So they have to invest in their wards so that when they complete the basic school level, they can enjoy the free SHS policy. And I am optimistic that should we all join hands in supporting government to invest in education, this country will become a very developed country in the near future".

At the Gbedema Primary School where she marked the annual " My First Day At School" visit, Miss Tangoba distributed some educational materials including school uniforms, biscuits and soft drinks to the pupils.

She encouraged the pupils to take education seriously and adviced them against playing truancy.

The Minister also urged the staff of the school to give off their best to guarantee proper teaching and learning in the school.

She assured them of government support for the education sector, adding that education is a top priority of government.

The chief of Gbedema, Nab Nkrumah Aparichang, who was surprised by the minister's visit to his palace, gave his words of commitment in helping education find a place in his land.

He thanked the Minister for her commitment to the development of Buluk and prayed for her tenure.

Atiim Regina, the Head Teacher of the Gbedema Primary School, expressed her appreciation to the Minister for the distributed items and visit.

She noted that the items, especially the uniforms, would go a long way to support the needy children in the school.
