Kwesi Pratt lauds 'busing' of government officials, calls for bullet-proof buses

The Managing Editor for the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, has lauded the decision of President Akufo Addo to convey ministers in buses during regional tours.

Some ministers and other appointees joined one bus during the President’s Ashanti Regional tour in two state-owned STC buses.

The directive was aimed at putting an end to long Presidential convoys.

Speaking with Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive Monday, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, praised the President for the initiative and further called for a bulletproof bus, " which is more secure and convenient".

According to Kwesi Pratt, cutting the number of vehicles that accompany the president to events is long overdue.

He said the bus will give ministers and government appointees ample time to know themselves and discuss relevant developmental issues while on the bus.

Security Analyst at the Kofi Annan Peace Keeping Centre, Dr. Kwesi Aning, is, however, against the move. According to him, busing ministers and government appointees exposes the level of indiscipline in Ghana.

Dr. Kwasi Aning added that it would be disturbing for accident pictures of our ministers and government appointees to surface on social media.

Responding to Dr. Kwasi Aning, Kwesi Pratt mentioned that convoys could also be involved in accidents.

“If our fear with regards to the new initiative is accident, then, we can as well get comfortable bullet-proof buses as well as well-trained drivers to convey the ministers. The most important thing is that Ghanaians were complaining about long convoys and the President has given a listening ear,” he said.
