President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has assured the people of Ghana that the number of police officers will be increased to enable them fight crime effectively.
Apart from the number that will be increased, he said the needed logistics and retraining of officers on modern ways of fighting crime will be provided.
Speaking at the 61st Independence Day celebration on Tuesday, 6 March on the recent rise in robbery, the president said: “The Police have a primary responsibility of maintaining peace and keeping law and order in our society and in exceptional cases, with the backing of the Armed Forces.
“The government is doing and will do whatever it takes to enable the Police discharge their duties effectively.
“We are providing the needs for them to modernise their equipment and learn modern methods of policing and their numbers will be rapidly increased to match our growing population and the sophistication of the criminals.”
