The ruling New Patriotic Party on Tuesday, January 16 inaugurated the party’s reviewed constitution at their headquarters in Accra.

This is to strengthen the party at all levels and according to the Acting General Secretary of the party, John Boadu, if the reviewed constitution is adhered to, the NPP party will no longer face internal crisis making them remain in government for long.

“The NPP holds a view that this reviewed constitution we are inaugurating today will add the needed impetuous to the party’s organisational strength at all levels. It has been well streamlined and made more effective to directly reflect the exigencies of this moment”.

“In effect, if we are all going to strictly adhere to the provisions of this reviewed constitution which I’m confident we will, then I dare say that the NPP shall face no more internal crisis and that we will continue to remain in government and deliver prosperity to the good people of this country,” he added.

Speaking to the media about some amendments made in the party’s constitution, Mr. John Boadu stating Article 15 of the reviewed constitution said Nasara will now be an official and special organ of the party just like the youth wing and the women’s wing.

“Amendment of Article 14 now Article 15 to make Nasara one of the special organs of the party just like the youth wing and the women’s wing. This also means that the following Articles have been amended”.

“Hitherto we had Nasara as a branch of the party and was even having officers of the party, now the party has agreed that Nasara is a wing of the party; is a special organ of the party and by so doing their officers at constituency level, at the regional level and at the national level shall be elected”.

“They will also have deputy Nasara coordinators as well and a constituency, at the region and two National Nasara coordinators and this has been effected,” he said.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has also been made a “voting member” of the NPP Steering Committee to take part in the party's decision-making process.

The NPP’s external branches have also been added to the NEC and National Council membership, with the amendment of Article 8.

The party on 17 December 2017, held an extraordinary delegates' conference in Kumasi to consider all proposals and deliberate on the amendment of the constitution setting up an 11-member ad-hoc committee.
