Otiko Afisa Djaba, Minister-designate of Gender, Children and Social Protection, is “intolerant” and her performance at the Appointments Committee was “unsatisfactory” hence the Minority’s decision not to approve her nomination, Member of Parliament for Wa West Joseph Yieleh Chireh has said.

Ms Djaba has incurred the wrath of Minority MPs for her refusal to apologise for describing former President John Mahama as “evil”, “wicked” and “an embarrassment” to people of the regions up north when she appeared before the Appointment Committee.

All the Minority legislators on the Appointments Committee voted against her approval citing her inability to undertake her national service as well as her posture during her vetting for their stance when they debated her nomination on the floor of parliament on Friday February 3.

However, speaking to Citi FM on the same day, Mr Chireh added that Ms Djaba demonstrated intolerance when she appeared before the Appointments Committee.

“By our examination this is not a tolerant woman who will listen to a woman who has been abused by a man or a child who has been abused. She is intolerant…her whole posture shows that she is not for it... Her approach to questions everybody knows were not satisfactory, but that one it is the appointing authority who says she is competent for the position,” he stated.

Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu told parliament: “She does not have our support and she will not have our support until she behaves in a manner befitting a minister.”

Ms Djaba’s approval was suspended by parliament until Tuesday, 7 February, when the house will vote to decide.
