Sunyani Municipal Assembly endorses President's nominee
Madam Justina Owusu-Banahene, the President's nominee for the position of Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Sunyani has been overwhelmingly endorsed.
All the 47 assembly members present gave Madam Owusu-Banahene the nod as MCE for the assembly.
She thus becomes the second female MCE after Mrs Evelyn AmaKumi-Richardson who was recently elevated to the position of Regional Minister for the newly created Bono Region.
Prior to the voting process supervised by the Electoral Commission, Mrs. Kumi-Richardson appealed to the assembly members to honour the President by giving his nominee a hundred percent of yes votes.
The Regional Minister was hopeful that the nominee if confirmed, would enjoy the same co-operation and understanding extended to her by the assembly members during her tenure in office as MCE for two years.
Shortly after her confirmation, the Regional Minister on behalf of the President swore-in Madam Owusu-Banahene and led her to swear the Oaths of Office and Secrecy.
The new MCE expressed her appreciation to President Nana Akufo-Addo for the confidence reposed in her and promised not to let him down.
Madam Owusu-Banahene was also grateful to the assembly members for their massive endorsement and pledged to continue with the good work started by her predecessor.
She appealed for their support in developing the municipality irrespective of their political affiliations.
Prior to her nomination and subsequent confirmation, Madam Owusu-Banahene was the First Deputy National Women Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and a lecturer at the Berekum College of Education.
She holds a Masters Degree in Religious Studies from the University of Cape Coast, where she is currently perusing her Ph. D degree.
