President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s big cabinet ‘shake up’ has since its announcement generated public debate and mixed reactions.

A statement from the presidency, signed by the Director of Communications, Eugene Arhin revealed that former Deputy Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah had been elevated to the substantive position whilst his former boss, Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid was reassigned to head the Ministry of Inner City and Zongo Development.

Other ministers have also been swapped, with the Gender Minister being re-appointed as Ghana’s Ambassador to Italy.

Reacting to the issue, a section of Ghanaians who spoke to Ghanaweb were confident that the President was well aware of his actions and possible repercussions. In fact, they are of the belief that such a drastic change wouldn’t have occurred if the President, knowing his appointees and his ambitions in the political spheres, had not considered the pros and cons of his decision.

“I am sure that he knows what he is doing so that it could be for the good of the people and the Deputy Information Minister’s elevation to a substantive minister will improve the communication system,” one person said.

Others, however, were also of the view that even though it is a good decision to reshuffle ministers of state, the timing may be bad because it might affect activities at the various ministries.
