Akufo-Addo is optimistic technical and vocational school graduates will be crucial to IDIF policy
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reiterated his government’s commitment to focus on technical and vocational education in the country.
According to him, a confident educative workforce helps to compete in the global economy.
Nana Akufo-Addo who was speaking at the President’s Independence Day Awards which saw various students being awarded for excelling in the Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) on Tuesday, 6 March 2018, also noted that graduates of technical and vocational education will play a crucial role in his flagship One-District-One-Factory programme.
Mr Akufo-Addo said: “Education is the key to the development of our nation and a healthy democracy. It is for this reason that 12 September 2017, we rolled out the free SHS policy.
“This programme has ensured that 90,000 more students gained access to senior high school in 2017 than in 2016. Ghana needs a confident educated workforce to be able to compete successfully in the global market economy and bring wealth and prosperity to its people.
“Government’s agenda is to focus its attention on technical and vocational educational training to ensure that we position graduates from these institutions at the forefront of the One-District-One- Factory programme and other policy interventions.”
