The spokesperson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Mahamudu Bawumia, has emphasized the importance of the government's Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy that has been operational since 2017.
Dennis Miracles Aboagye, who is also the host of the Next Level, a TV programme dedicated to the Bawumia for President 2024 campaign, shed tears on the recent edition of the show while talking about the policy.
In a viral video clip of the show, Miracles is seen receiving a handkerchief from a production team staff and wiping tears when a testimony by a Free SHS beneficiary was being played.
"When you look at this young lady, where would her future have been? She was in search of an opportunity to secure her future... let us protect her and take it from there, let's not abandon this mission," a sobbing Miracles is heard saying.
The NPP have insisted that unless Bawumia succeeds President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2025, the opposition flagbearer, former President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will scrap the policy.
Mahama and the NDC have dismissed that claim stressing that one of its main tasks upon assumption of office in 2025 will be to review the Free SHS policy.
The policy was a major campaign issue in the 2016 election that brought Akufo-Addo into office. It has, however, come under strong scrutiny from politicians and civil society.
