I do not blame a functionally illiterate character like Akomea who we can ignore with all the contempt that he deserves. The blame lies squarely with NDC functionaries who seem to have other personal aspirations which they are using the govt to achieve.

Can somebody please explain to me why a Pastor of the Pentecostal church cannot be criticized in the same or any way that Presidents, ministers, Speakers of Parliament, experts of various fields, Supreme Court judges, the IGP, medical doctors, university lecturers, businessmen, the Pope, the arch-Bishop of Canterbury and all other heads of local and international religious denominations can be criticized when they step out of line?

Why? Are they telling us that the church of Pentecost is an undemocratic dictatorial organization that does not tolerate disent or free speech? Or maybe they do not know that Ghana is a democratic country?

I recently decided to find and then watch the clip of the chief of staffs tearful apology. Before then I have also familiarized myself with media narratives of Dr. Ewusis critique of the Pastor. First of all, I did not find anything overly out of place in Dr Ewusis criticism as a politician. In the world of sensitive partisan politics it can fly with merit and even celebration.

What I however found a little disturbing and embarrassing is the scenario of the tearful apology. The said Pastor at the center of this brouhaha, appeared to be overly embarrassed at the emotional dramatics of the chief of staff. The look on his face was one that said, "but what at all is this that this guy has put me into"?

To ensure that my observation had some semblance of truth, I have gone out of my way to do a little research on the man, Pastor (Apostle) Eric Kwabena Nyamekye. From what I found out, the Pastor is actually a nice man - a gentlemanly looking type of person who would not hurt a fly and who would have rather avoided all the Debrah-provoked hullabaloo.

That said, he should have been more careful about the choice of words he used in legitimately addressing a matter of grave national concern and of high political sensitivity. I can assure him that, not very many NDC sympathizers took the mode of his observation lying down. Of course, as a citizen he also has the right to criticize where and when necessary. But as the chairman of a significant church in this country, he would be better off staying out of sensitive damn it all criticisms. He can, if he so wishes, make carefully crafted "observations" for the interest of all. He is also free to confront the powers that be, on critical issues - that is, if he and the Church of Pentecost are prepared to face the political onslaught. All is fair in love and war.
