Former Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea, has questioned President John Dramani Mahama’s silence over recent comments made by Dr Mary Awusi, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority, against the Chairman of the Church of Pentecost.

Dr Awusi recently criticised Apostle Eric Kwabena Nyamekye over remarks he made on illegal mining (galamsey).

Although she has since apologised, Nana Akomea argues that her initial comments violated the President’s code of conduct for appointees.

Speaking on a panel discussion on Kokrokoo on April 30, 2026, Akomea stated that the President must take action in line with his own standards.

“Even the President has admitted that the fight against galamsey is difficult. For a pastor to comment and for the Free Zones Authority CEO to insult him, I think it goes against the President’s own code, so he needs to take action,” he said.

He further added, “Per his own code of conduct for his appointees, government officials are not allowed to insult Ghanaians. So, what is he going to do now?”

Meanwhile, the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has apologised to the Pentecost Chairman, who has accepted the apology and indicated that he has forgiven Dr Awusi.
