One dead after car rams into stationary truck at Ako Adjei Interchange

One person has been confirmed dead after a saloon car rammed into a KIA Rhino truck which had reportedly broken down along the Ako Adjei Interchange in Accra in the early hours of Wednesday, June 17, 2026.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the accident involved a KIA Rhino Truck with registration number GE 1120-15 and a Zedrive Saloon Car with registration number GW 6334-26.

In a statement issued on June 17, 2026, the GNFS said it received a distress call at 1:16 am and immediately dispatched a rescue team from its headquarters to the scene.

“The distress call was received at 0116hrs, and the rescue crew led by ADO I Yussif Yakubu arrived at the scene within six minutes to find the driver of the saloon car trapped and unresponsive."

“Following an assessment by the medical team, the victim was confirmed dead at the scene,” the GNFS stated.

Fire officers subsequently undertook an extrication operation to recover the body from the mangled vehicle.

“The GNFS urges all motorists whose vehicles break down on the road to immediately deploy reflective warning triangles or other visible warning devices to alert approaching drivers, particularly at night, and help prevent similar tragedies,” the statement noted.

The Service also extended its condolences to the family of the deceased and urged all road users to exercise caution and comply with road safety regulations.

The GNFS used the incident to remind motorists to observe safety measures whenever their vehicles develop faults on the road.
