Ghana@61: More than 10 students collapse at parade

On every 6th March, a day Ghanaians celebrate “Independence Day”, the President gives a long speech and students, security officers, market women, among others are required to parade at a selected venue to observe the day.

As Ghana marked its 61st Independence anniversary, students, teachers, personnel of the various state security services met to commemorate the day.

At the Black Star Square where a large number of Ghanaians including the President of the Republic and other special guests from other countries gathered for the national celebration, over ten pupils collapsed while participating in the Independence Day parade.

Some security personnel also collapsed and were together with the unconscious pupils carried in to the ambulances stationed at the venue and were given first aid by the Red Cross Society.

DCE collapses

The District Chief Executive for Wassa East District, in the Western Region Wilson Arthur, also collapsed while delivering his address on the grounds of the Independence Day celebration.

According to reports by 3news.com, the collapsed DCE, was immediately rushed to the Ahmadyyia Muslim Mission hospital at Daboase by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Wassa East constituency, Isaac Adjei Mensah, and his entourage.

The theme for this year's independence celebration is "Ghana beyond Aid” Transformation” and H.E Muhammadu Buhari, President of Nigeria was the special guest of honour for the event.
