Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah insists he will stay on as coach of the Black Stars despite the side’s early exit from the 2014 World Cup.

Ghana crashed out of the competition without a win having lost 2-1 to Portugal in their final group game on Thursday.

The Black Stars finished at the bottom of Group G with just a single point which was gained from the thrilling 2-2 draw with Germany.

Several coaches who have failed to take their team through the group stage to the Round of 16 have either been sacked or have tendered in their resignation.

But Appiah, who agreed to a two-year contract extension with the Ghana FA before the start of the World Cup in Brazil, is adamant he will remain at post to continue building his team.

“As to my future, I have a contract and it has not ended yet,” he said at the press conference after the defeat to Portugal.

“I will continue to build the team for the future.”

Ghana will thus be exiting the competition for the first time since its debut campaign in Germany 2006 after just the first round.

The Black Stars aimed at being the first African country to make it into the last four of this year’s tournament but were tormented with several side issues which included an appearance fee row and disciplinary issues with some key players.
