Black Stars coach Carlos Queiroz
Newly appointed Black Stars coach Carlos Queiroz has come under intense scrutiny on social media following his record at World Cup tournaments.
The former coach of Real Madrid, Manchester United, Portugal, and Iran will lead Ghana’s campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
Queiroz brings extensive World Cup experience. He led South Africa to the 2002 FIFA World Cup, guided Portugal to the knockout stage in 2010, and managed Iran at both the 2014 and 2018 tournaments.
7 facts you must know about new Black Stars coach Carlos Queiroz
He has also held coaching roles in Egypt, Oman, Japan, and Qatar, and is expected to bring his wealth of experience to Ghana’s World Cup campaign.
Despite this background, his record at the Mundial does not appear impressive. Across five tournaments (2002, 2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022), he has coached 13 matches, winning 3, drawing 4, and losing 6, with his teams scoring 14 goals and conceding 14.
Since this record surfaced online, many social media users have questioned the Portuguese coach’s ability to deliver positive results for the Black Stars.
Some fans are pessimistic about Ghana’s chances of excelling at the tournament, given Queiroz’s track record.
Others criticised the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation for appointing him among the shortlisted candidates, especially with such a major tournament at stake.
Some even argued that Otto Addo would have been a better option, ridiculing the decision to appoint Queiroz.

Oh c'mon GFA! GFA!! Aaba why!! After sacking Otto Addo for poor performance, you went ahead to appoint another poor performing coach? Who told you experience without ability is experience. How could you appoint a coach with 'F' stats at this crucial time. Wei deɛ 'F' oo🤭🤣

GFA is corrupt and they don't know what they are doing
I don't rate this guy, I don't know why. Has he won anything in his coaching career?

The GFA honestly I don’t really know what their end game is if you are serious institution why will you appoint this man if they really did their work well

Otto is a better coach than this old headed coach. No achievement. Not with CR7 and certainly not with this broken Black Stars Team. The Gov't pressured the GFA to sack Otto, 90 days to his twice world Cup in a role while testing new players to better an injury prone team. Bad!
