We’ve put our best foot forward for your security – IGP assures

The Ghana Police Service says it has put its best feet forward to ensure that Ghanaians and foreigners in the country enjoy their Christmas and New Year festivities devoid any major security breaches.

Inspector General of Police David Asante-Apeatu, who gave the assurance on Christmas day said the Police have put in place pragmatic measures to ensure the safety of homes, communities, business premises, beaches, churches, hospitals and highways among other areas during the season.

Delivering a Christmas and New Year messages to Ghanaians, he said it was worth noting that crime prevention is a shared responsibility, hence would require the support of the public in that regard.The Police, he said, can only be successful in this collective effort if the citizenry and non-Ghanaians support the police by providing info.

“We want to also assure Ghanaians of our commitment to ensuring that you go through the Christmas and the New Year festivities without any major security challenges. Whilst the police with support from other security agencies will put their best feet forward to ensure the safety of every person in the country, security begins with you,” he pointed out.

Mr. Asante-Apeatu has therefore advised the public not take their personal security for granted, and urged them to be alert at all times, as well as ensure they have the police emergency numbers on hand always.

Also, the IGP told pedestrians and drivers that they have a responsibility to themselves, their families and other road users.

“Drive with utmost caution at all times. Passengers travelling in commercial vehicles are also cautioned not to put pressure on drivers to over speed for them to get to their destinations early.

“I and my senior team at the headquarters and in the regions and all officers; men and women of the Ghana Police Service, are committed to giving you effective policing services” he assured.
